Trainingssystem for spine surgery
The training system for spinal surgery can be used for the training of classical operations like laminectomy,
decompression and fixation of contiguous vertebra under realistic conditions. The anatomical structures are
extracted from CT data of the patient.
Vertebra structures are reproduced with bone-like material and soft
tissues with special silicones. During the simulation the surgeon uses the same instruments as for real operations.
By replacing only the specific module which is used during a simulation costs can be essentially reduced.
The position of the instruments is displayed in real time as 3D animation as well as in the CT images by
using the supplied simulation software.
The highlight of the training system is the detection and visualization
of cuts and crushes of the spine. Thereby objective evaluations of the operation can be derived. Further,
specific anatomies or pathologies can be trained. This increases the sustainability of the training as well as the effectiveness of the systems.
